Hello Paul

I attended your “Recession proofing Your Business” in Bendigo last Wednesday.

Prior to this meeting I had become quite despondent and ready to sell my little “Vintage & Recycled Clothing shop” as I began to feel it had become all too hard!! 

Listening to you and making many notes I came to realise that my attitude needed changing and I needed to smarten up my bookwork. All through my working years I was a secretary-come accounts person until 4 years ago when this business was offered to me and I grasped it with both hands with much enthusiasm. I still remember my first day when I stood in front of the cash register and thought “what have I done – I don’t know how to use this thing”. So this is my first experience working in retail and being my own boss.  

Even though I love my business and all my customers I needed guidance in the areas that I was failing in. This you gave me. I headed off to my little shop with renewed enthusiasm and kept reminding myself “act like a business owner”.  Well, the sales for Thursday tripled, Friday was amazing, and I even had appointments with customers Friday evening at 7.30 – the same for Saturday.

I am writing to thank-you for explaining all so well. I keep my little ”manual” handy at all times.

I would also like to add that in the past I only focused on paying my bills and the rent – after leaving Wednesday one of my new goals was to pay myself a decent wage – well this happened on the Thursday!! – plus more.
